New chair puts best foot forward as fundraising campaign launched

Ceredigion based hospice at home charity, HAHAV, is today (Tuesday, 4 June) launching a fundraising campaign in an attempt to safeguard and develop its services for the years ahead. With a new centre on the outskirts of Aberystwyth and demand for its services increasing across the county, the aim is to raise £200,000 in the next 18 months.

Kicking off the campaign is new chair, Gwerfyl Pierce Jones, as she looks to walk 100 miles in a month to spearhead the fundraising. She is also calling out for people and organisations to join in and organise fundraising activities and events over the coming months,

“The way HAHAV has developed since its inception nearly a decade ago is testament to the dedication of countless volunteers, who have provided a much needed service for people across Ceredigion.

“We are now facing a situation where we need to invest in our infrastructure in order for us to be able to continue to provide much needed hospice at home services. All monies raised will go towards the development of Plas Antaron as a Living Well Centre and the expansion of our volunteer services across Ceredigion.

“It is a challenging time to ask people to contribute financially but I hope they recognise the crucial work delivered by HAHAV and that they will support this worthy cause.”

Gwerfyl herself is leading by example by aiming to walk 100 miles in a month and asking for sponsorship support along the way.

The campaign is being launched during Volunteers Week, an opportunity to celebrate the hugely valuable contribution that volunteers make to society. HAHAV has always been a volunteer led organisation and they are crucial to its work.

One of the volunteers is Gwen Aaron who believes there are huge benefits to volunteering for all involved,

“I began volunteering with HAHAV when I returned to live in Aberystwyth and discovered the wonderful work that HAHAV fulfills. I work in the Bereavement Programme to counsel those who have lost a loved one and are finding it difficult to live with their grief.

“We hold face to face sessions where people can talk freely knowing that it is completely confidential. The hope is that this lessens their burden a little and that in time they learn to live more easily with their sorrow. As volunteers we cannot claim to be enjoying the work, but if it goes well it certainly gives us great satisfaction.”

Gwerfyl to walk 100 miles for HAHAV Ceredigion in June

To kick off Ceredigion based hospice at home charity, HAHAV’s fundraising campaign, the organisation’s new chair, Gwerfyl Pierce Jones, is aiming to walk 100 miles in a month.

The ultimate aim of the fundraising campaign itself is to safeguard and develop the charity’s crucial services for the years ahead. With a new centre on the outskirts of Aberystwyth and demand for its services increasing across the county, the aim is to raise £200,000 in the next 18 months.

Please support if you can and Gwerfyl has said she will match the sum raised pound for pound up to £1,000.

HAHAV supports people with life limiting conditions throughout Ceredigion via its Home Support Service, Bereavement Services and activities at its Living Well Centre in Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
