SPF Project update

HAHAV is delighted to be launching a series of arts, creative, cultural and heritage projects this September, running throughout 2023 and 2024. The project is funded by UK Government, driven by Levelling Up, in partnership with Ceredigion County Council.

The project – delivered through collaboration with arts health organisation Haul – aims to benefit people with/affected by chronic, life-limiting illness, and bereaved people across Ceredigion. Research indicates that arts can be therapeutic for these groups, promoting self-expression and self-esteem; yet often – due to social isolation and poor wellbeing – people miss out on arts/creative opportunities. The first project delivery location will be Aberystwyth, whilst we undertake scoping work in mid and south of the county to allow us to reach people in more remote parts of Ceredigion.

Series one, commencing 26th September in Aberystwyth, participatory arts with Martine Ormerod:

Martine is a community artist who has coordinated and facilitated creative arts and wellbeing groups for older adults. She has worked across mid-Wales and in Australia. She is also an art psychotherapist and has worked 1-to-1 with adults with dementia.

This project welcomes people with chronic, life-limiting illness, their carers, and bereaved people. FULLY BOOKED!

Series two, commencing 12th October in Aberystwyth, participatory textiles with Becky Knight:

Becky Knight is a freelance artist and educator. She is trained in fine art printing making and for many years has specialised in textiles. Her quilt work has been exhibited in Wales and in America. Becky enjoys working with recycled materials and has even made a quilt out of bubblewrap.  Working with different fabrics and materials, the theme will focus on ‘sense of place’.

This project welcomes people with chronic, life-limiting illness, their carers, and bereaved people. Please contact Alex on 01970 611550 or email admin@hahav.org.uk to book your place or express your interest.

HAHAV was also fortunate to have been awarded further Levelling Up capital funds to create a dedicated arts therapy room at Plas Antaron, our Living Well Centre in Aberystwyth. Once complete, this transformative facility will provide an accessible and tranquil space for participating in arts and creative activities, available to both HAHAV’s service users and the wider community. Further information about the scheme can be found on the UK Government website or the Growing Mid Wales website.
